Today, March 8, 2023, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is scheduled to deliver the State of the Nation Address in ParliamentThis is in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, which states that the President must inform Parliament of the state of the nation prior to the dissolution of Parliament and at the beginning of each session.

The government's key policy goals for the year are expected to be emphasized in the speech, as is information on how the government plans to address the current economic situation. Alban Bagbin, Parliament's Speaker, provided an explanation for the meeting's February rescheduling.

“The address has been shifted to March 8 after extensive discussion. The President agreed to the date for good reason. The President is anticipated to attend a national event on June 6 in Ho, which is an important date for all of us. It will definitely not be held on the seventh, and for good reason. As a result, we have agreed to forego a few assignments and complete the SONA on August 8,” the Speaker stated.

The President has been urged to take steps to lower the high cost of goods and services by industry players. The Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) has complained about the recent rise in the price of vehicle spare parts, which it attributes to the high import duties.

Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana, a council member, claims that President Akufo Addo must reveal his government's plans to address the issue of high import duties in today's state of the nation address.

David Agboado, the Public Relations Officer of the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana, stated in an interview with Citi News that the president's address must address the numerous challenges facing the transportation industry.

We are hoping that the President will mention import duties on spare parts because our current issue is the soaring cost of replacement parts. The majority of Ghana's roads are currently impassable to cars.  Fuel and spare parts issues are the primary ones, he said.
