'I have Also Squandered My Ex-gratia' - Mahama's DCE Explains Why He Can't Refund

Stephen Yeboah, the former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Mponua in the Ashanti Region, has disclosed that he has also wasted his ex-gratia and would not be able to return it if asked to.

On Hello Fm, which is based in Kumasi, he said that he is ready to work with former President John Dramani Mahama to stop paying ex-gratias to government appointees in the next NDC administration.

"In the following NDC organization, we will hinder the misuse of government assets through installment of ex-gratia. The fact that you will give former appointees such a massive sum of money in the name of paying ex-gratia is cause for concern for Ghanaians, he stated.

The host inquired about his willingness to repay the ex-gratia he received during his term, to which he replied, "mine is past and gone." The money has gone to waste on me. He emphasized, "I am only now prepared to protect additional payments to appointees in the name of ex-gratia."

At the start of his campaign last week in the Volta Region, former President John Dramani Mahama said that if he got the nod, he would eliminate ex-gratia payments to Article 71 officeholders.

He also said that his team would implement the most extensive constitutional, political, and governance reforms since the Fourth Republic with the goal of restoring confidence in Ghana's systems and making people's lives better.

"We will continue and conclude the constitutional review process that was started by the late President Atta-Mills." "The payment of ex gratia to members of the executive under Article 71 will be stopped." "We will review the contentious Article 71 to reduce the number of office holders under Article 71 and reduce the disparities in privileges and monuments vis-à-vis the public sector and civil service." What's more, the important sacred moves toward annul that installment will begin decisively in 2025," Mr Mahama guaranteed.
