KINTAMPO ACCIDENT UPDATE: 23 People Have Died At A Spot - Continue Reading 

23 people were killed in a horrible accident last night in the Kintampo North Municipality of the Bono East Region between Kintampo and Babatokoma. Two of the victims died at the Kintampo Government Hospital, where the injured were rushed for treatment, while 21 of the victims died on the spot.

It been told that the accident involved a truck with the registration number GW 1127-P and a Grandbird bus with the destination Yendi-Kumasi. Locals informs the public that the accident happened around 11 p.m.

They claim that the articulated truck attempted to avoid colliding with another parked vehicle on the road by veering off its lane into the bus's lane. In any case, the bus collided with the articulated truck, resulting in the deaths of 22 people and numerous injuries to others.

The injured are also receiving treatment at the Kintampo Government Hospital, where the bodies have been deposited in the morgue. Police are currently detaining the two drivers of the vehicles who are said to have survived the accident.

Kwasi Adu-Gyan, the Bono East Regional Minister, has gone to the accident site to look over the situation. He discussed the incident with GBC NEWS and expressed concern regarding the numerous accidents that occur on that section of the Kintampo-Tamale highway.

To prevent such incidents, Mr. Adu-Gyan suggested establishing a mandatory rest stop at Kintampo to compel drivers traveling long distances to rest. He added that the Ghana Shippers Council, the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), and the Bono East Regional Coordinating Council are already in talks to implement such a measure.
