Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Communications Minister, has spoken about how she turned down a chance to study at Yale University in order to marry the man of her dreams. Yale University is a private research university in New Haven, Connecticut, USA, that belongs to the Ivy League. One of the best institutions in the world, it was established in 1701.
The Minister, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West Constituency, spoke about the social pressures that single women in Ghana face and how they are referred to as "unwhole" simply because they do not have a partner.
She believes that this has a significant impact on women's decision-making and encourages them to get married solely to please friends and family.
Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful acknowledged during her speech at the eTranzact Ghana Ltd.-organized 2023 International Women's Day that she does not have any regrets whatsoever about making the crucial decision to choose marriage over education at Yale University.
A letter to my 25-year-old self asks, "Will it really matter in five years?," Will it really matter what you're stressed out about? At that point, I was torn between getting married and attending Yale.

“We do succumb to a lot of the pressure from family, friends, and the church that if you are not married, you are not complete, and that is the highest possible state of affairs.
She stated, "I had the opportunity to go to Yale, and there was a young man wooing her at the time, and she decided that it was okay, let me go and get married."
The Minister advised women to consider all available opportunities and identify their priorities in order to make informed decisions.
“...those are turning points in our lives; the choice we make now will have an impact on the future, so we need to be careful. The MP stated, "That was a decision I had to take. Maybe if I had gone to Yale, I wouldn't be sitting here today as a Member of Parliament and your Minister, so the Lord knew."
